Urbana
Whether your favorite activity is tennis, cricket, fishing or archery – or dozens of other offerings – Urbana has a park for you. The city of 39,302 residents, designated a Tree City USA for its more than 100,000 trees, is the home of the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, with an enrollment of 34,500. Urbana’s 20 parks feature an aquatic center, archery, sledding, disc golf, playgrounds, ball fields, basketball courts, tennis, trails and picnic areas. The League of American Bicyclists has named the city a Bicycle Friendly Community. Market at the Square is a popular feature each May through October, with produce, plants, food, and arts and crafts for sale. There’s also a vibrant dining scene, which earned Midwest Living magazine’s designation of Greatest Midwest Food Town. Urbana also offers a number of museums and exhibits for those interested in history, art, nature, science and other topics.
