MARCH FIRST FRIDAY COFFEE
Habitat for Humanity of Champaign County & ReStore was the host of the First Friday Coffee this month. Over 50 people joined their team and the chamber staff. There was a great mix of businesses represented at the event. The hosts provided a light breakfast from Dish Passionate Cuisine. The hosts did 3 drawings for coupons to ReStore. Thank you again to Habitat for Humanity for welcoming us all so graciously and to all the local business professionals that joined at First Friday Coffee.

FEBRUARY BUSINESS AFTER HOURS

Consolidated Communications of Champaign (formerly Champaign Telephone Company) hosted Business After Hours this month. Over 75 people were in attendance. It was great to see a variety of businesses and professionals represented at the event. The host provided food and drinks from Michael's Catering. They also held a drawing for an Amazon Echo which one lucky attendee went home with. We look forward to seeing you all at the Business After Hours next month!

2017 ATHENA AWARDS LUNCHEON

On February 16, 2017, the Champaign County Chamber of Commerce and members of the community celebrated the accomplishments of two great women. Deb Reardanz, President & CEO of Clark-Lindsey, was named the 2017 ATHENA Award® Recipient. Carly McCrory, Assistant Director at Champaign County Economic Development Corporation , was named the 2017 ATHENA Young Professional Award® Recipient. The program was sponsored by Spherion Champaign Illinois. The lapel pin was sponsored by Busey Wealth Management. There were over 140 people in attendance for the event, which was held at the Champaign Country Club. Thank you to the support of our great chamber members and community. Congratulation again, Deb and Carly.


FEBRUARY FIRST FRIDAY COFFEE

First Bank at the Crossing was the host of the First Friday Coffee this month. Over 60 people joined their team and the chamber staff. There was a great mix of businesses represented at the event. The hosts provided a light breakfast of bagels and pastries as well as coffee and juice. The hosts did a drawing for a beautiful floral arrangement from Blossom Basket. Thank you again to First Bank for welcoming us all so graciously and to all the local business professionals that joined at First Friday Coffee.

JANUARY BUSINESS AFTER HOURS

Comfort Suites Champaign - Urbana hosted Business After Hours this month. Over 60 people were in attendance. It was great to see a variety of businesses and professionals represented at the event. The host provided food from Rosati's Pizza and gave away three prizes to some lucky attendees. We look forward to seeing you all at the Business After Hours next month!


JANUARY FIRST FRIDAY COFFEE

Farnsworth Group was the host of the First Friday Coffee this month. Over 60 people joined their team and the chamber staff. There was a great mix of businesses represented at the event. The hosts provided a light breakfast as well as coffee and juice. The hosts did several drawings for $25 gift cards and some Titleist golf balls. Parkland College Business Training & Community Education was the host of the First Friday Coffee this month. Over 50 people joined their team and the chamber staff. There was a great mix of businesses represented at the event. The hosts had a light breakfast catered by Dish Passionate Cuisine. The hosts also gave away a voucher for $100 towards a personal or professional development course and four centerpieces. NOVEMBER FIRST FRIDAY COFFEE

Christie Clinic was the host of the First Friday Coffee this month. Over 50 people joined their team and the chamber staff. There was a great mix of businesses represented at the event. The hosts had a light breakfast catered by Einstein Bros. Bagels. The hosts also gave away a gift basket to one lucky attendee. 2016 CHAMBER ANNUAL MEETING
On Friday, October 28, 2016, the Champaign County Chamber of Commerce celebrated our 25th anniversary with our members. A very special thank you to Midland States Bank, who was the title sponsor, as well as our mid-level sponsors Christie Clinic, Commerce Bank and Regency Apartments. We had record attendance and it was wonderful to see so many of our members represented at this event. With an annual meeting unlike any other in the area, we were happy to announce Marc Rubben comedy ventriloquist as the event's entertainer. Two Chamber members were brought on stage to participate as human "puppets" wearing masks controlled by Marc. The participants had a blast dancing and creating hand motions to go along with what the entertainer had them say. Videos of this one-of-a-kind performance to follow...stay tuned. OCTOBER BUSINESS AFTER HOURS
Lincolnshire Fields Country Club hosted Business After Hours this month. Over 80 people were in attendance. Lincolnshire gave away two 6-month dining memberships and 2 foursomes of golf. It was great to see a variety of businesses and professionals represented at the event. We look forward to seeing you all at the Business After Hours next month!



2016 MEET THE CANDIDATES BREAKFAST
Over 70 people joined the Champaign County Business Empowered PAC and the Champaign County Chamber of Commerce to hear what local candidates running for office had to say. They spoke about various issues and attendees were given the opportunity to submit questions for the candidates to respond to. Thank you to all who attended and the PAC for sponsoring. Good luck to all candidates in the coming weeks. Remember, election day is November 8.


OCTOBER FIRST FRIDAY COFFEE

Rogards was the host of the First Friday Coffee this month. Over 50 people joined their team and the chamber staff. There was a great mix of businesses represented at the event. SEPTEMBER BUSINESS AFTER HOURS

Iroquois Federal hosted Business After Hours this month and the event was held at Papa Del's. Over 120 people were in attendance.

Iroquois Federal gave away three different prizes: a round of golf for 4 at Stone Creek Golf Club, $100 gift card to Baxters, and $50 to Papa Del's.

SEPTEMBER BREAKFAST - 3 SECRETS OF POWERFUL COMMUNICATORS

Over 60 people attended the event which was held at Hawthorn Suites on Thursday, September 8 from 7:30 - 9:00 a.m.

GOLF OUTING

The 2016 Chamber Golf Outing sponsored by GFI Digital, Inc. was held at Stone Creek Golf Club in Urbana on June 2, 2016. This year, the event SOLD OUT both hole sponsorships AND golfers. We had 40+ raffle prizes, great contests, company and more. Dish Passionate Cuisine generously provided lunch and dinner for all golfers. Thank you to Orange & Blue Distributing Co., Inc. for providing all refreshments for the participants out on the course. Also, thank you to AT & T for their participation.

The Kick-Off event for Leading Ladies sponsored by The Walmart Foundation was held on April 27th at Lincolnshire Fields Country Club. Over 50 female business professionals met for roundtable discussions, networking and light appetizers and drinks.

The Chamber's Agribusiness Breakfast was held on March 10th at The City Center  in downtown Champaign.
Thank you to Dr. Robb Fraley of 
Monsanto for speaking at the breakfast about the agriculture industry and the large impact it can have on the surrounding communities. Champaign County is a local hub for agriculture technology and production. Dr. Fraley also discussed how diversity in agriculture benefits both farmers and consumers He ended his discussion by talking about the various options currently available in the industry and the benefits of each.

CityView at Illinois Terminal was the host of Business After Hours this month! Over 115 people were in attendance and Dish Passionate Cuisine was the caterer. It was great to see a variety of businesses and professionals represented at the event. One lucky attendee won the drawing for a Cocktail Party Package including food and drinks for up to 100 people courtesy of Champaign-Urbana Mass Transit District (CUMTD) and Dish Passionate Cuisine.

ATHENA Awards® Luncheon

On February 18, the annual ATHENA Award® was presented to Denise Martin, Partner at Martin, Hood, Friese and Associates. The award honors individuals who assist women reaching their full leadership potential; demonstrate excellence, creativity and initiative in their businesses or professions; and provide valuable service by devoting time and energy to improving the quality of life for others in the community.

Denise has been in public accounting for 30 years and has become known for her ability to make processes more efficiently. Outside of the accounting firm, Denise has also become a trailblazer in her volunteer work. She is the co-founder of Champaign-Urbana Cradle2Career, an organiztion designed to ensure all children have a path to success within our community. Denise received the Spirit of Caring award for being  the co-chair of the fundraising campaign for United Way of Champaign County. Denise also volunteers and acts as the co-chair of the annual fundraiser for CASA.

During the luncheon, the Chamber also honored Cynthia Bruno the ATHENA Young Professional Award®. Cynthia, Morning Show news anchor for WCIA 3, is an award winning journalist and has been recognized by the Illinois Broadcasters Association. She continues to serve as the President of the nonprofit, Girls Go For It, which is an after school program that helps build confidence and develop leadership skills. Her volunteer work has earner her recognition as a 40 under 40 recipient, one of Champaign County's 20 most influental women, and one of the area's Mom's to Know. She also serves on the United Way's Board of Directors, is a C-U One-to-One Mentor and volunteers her time as part of The Junior League of Champaign-Urbana

One of the most common concerns we hear from our members is that you need a qualified workforce. To better our local workforce, we must challenge ourselves to think outside the box.

Thank you to Dr. Doan Winkel, a business professor who teaches entrepreneurship at Illinois State University. He is also a serial entrepreneur. Just a few months ago, the Chicago Tribune called his two companies Legacy Out Loud and internrocket.com two of the top 10 start-up companies to watch in Illinois. He discussed how to close the growing gap between the current education system and the workforce needs of company's across the country.

Now, let's get to work!

Northwestern Mutual in Champaign was the host of the First Friday Coffee this month. Over 70 people join their team and the chamber staff in their brand new office space in downtown Champaign! There was a great mix of business represented at the event. Dish Passionate Cuisine was the caterer and the food was great.

Northwestern Mutual worked with a variety of local chamber members to giveaway a terrific gift basket just in time for Valentine's Day! There were goodies from Miga, Sun Singer, Blossom Basket Florist and Nando Milano -Champaign.
